A Brief History of Time, Stehpen Hawking

I've just finished reading this exciting book. Throughout the book I've been wondering how great a human's mind is. People discovering a mathematical theories without actually seeing or touching things they talk about. If they are lucky after some years their theories will be proved using state of art technologies to be true. For example, nobody truly knows whether black holes exist, but there is a developed mathematical model, which confirms their existence and shows their physical properties. (I still cannot bear it in mind :) )

Another thing, which attracted my attention, is the relationship between a religion and science. It’s not a secret, that a religion many years tried to suppress science and their finding, which do not go along with religion statements. Many great scientists such as Copernicus or Galileo suffered repressions by church, because their ideas did not match with religious beliefs or an accepted philosophy at the time. I was very surprised to know that in 20th century (maybe even now) some religious authorities still try to influence science for their own purpose. For example, the Christian religion is very keen in accepting the “Big Bang” theory, because it’s easier to explain for ordinary people how our universe was created.
So, since the medieval times not so much time passed....
